  19/5/2016: CLAYTON JACOBSON TOP JUDGE FOR BOFA SHORTS
Entries are now open for the 2016 Tasmanian Breath of Fresh Air Film Festival’s “BOFA Aussie Short Film Competition, with Clayton Jacobson as head of the jury panel. The Festival will be held in Launceston from Thursday, November 10 to Sunday, November 13.
  19/5/2016: CRONULLA RIOTS BLACK COMEDY FOR SYDNEY FILMFEST
Australian filmmaker Abe Forsythe’s black comedy take on the infamous 2005 Cronulla Riots in Sydney, which promises to arouse controversy, will have its world premiere at this year’s Sydney Film Festival in the Special Presentation program; it’s Forsythe’s second feature following his Ned Kelly comedy, Ned (2003).
  19/5/2016: FILM CRITICS CELEBRATE 70 YEARS AT CANNES
FIPRESCI, the International Federation of Film Critics, is celebrating the 70th anniversary of its presence at the Cannes Film Festival. In 1946, the International Critics elected a jury presided by the British film critic Dilys Powell and to give an award during the very first Cannes Film Festival.
  19/5/2016: FILMMAKERS URGE IRAN FOR CLEMENCY FOR KARIMI
Keywan Karimi is a 30-year-old Iranian filmmaker who has been sentenced by Iranian authorities to six years in jail and 223 lashes. His crime: practicing his profession as a filmmaker and showing the unofficial face of Iranian society, according to a statement by the European Film Academy – and signed by dozens of other film-related organisations.

In their first Australian based event, Australians in Film announced the 2016 nominees of the annual Heath Ledger Scholarship; the event was attended by Heath’s mother and sister, Sally Bell and Kate Ledger, Callie Hernandez, Damon Herriman, Matt Levett and Sophie Lowe.
  19/5/2016: PROOF OF MARGARET’S INTENT
Margaret Pomeranz has made the first donation to a Pozible crowd funding campaign hoping to raise $25,000 for the restoration of Jocelyn Moorehouse’s 1991 debut feature, Proof, as Ambassador for the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia. The campaign ends on June 30.

A digital restoration of Ray Lawrence’s 1985 AFI Award-winning classic Bliss will premiere at the Sydney Film Festival on 14 June (Event Cinemas, George St), presented by the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA) as part of its NFSA Restores initiative.

Award-winning Australian visual effects and animation studio Animal Logic has officially opened in Canada, with the first of the team moving into their new 45,000 sq ft studio in Yaletown, Vancouver.

Dr Greg Dolgolopov and Tamara Popper will lead a free masterclass for makers of short films at Sydney’s Academy of Information Technology (Level 2, 7 Kelly Street, Ultimo) on Tuesday October 13, from 7 – 8.30pm. (light refreshments will be served)
  24/9/2015: HISTORIC MOVIE PROGRAMS ON DISPLAY
A display of some 100 extremely rare, mint condition souvenir movie programs from the silent era through to the 1990s, including some on Australian films, will be on show on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 26-27 at Bathurst Showground.
  24/9/2015: RICH MOVIE MENU AT ADELAIDE’S MERCURY
Opening night drinks at 6.30pm precede the film A Simple Life at 7pm on Monday 28 September, at Adelaide’s Mercury Cinema, as part of the Ann Hui retrospective in the OzAsia Festival, about the changing relationship between Roger (Andy Lau) and Sister Peach (Deanie Ip, Best Actress Award, Venice fest), the now retired servant who once worked for Roger's family.
  24/9/2015: WOMEN ON THE BATTLE FRONT IN RUSSIAN FILMFEST
Eighteen new Russian films will premiere at the 12th Russian Resurrection Film Festival, playing at venues in Australia and New Zealand during October and November.
