SCREEN MUSIC AWARDS 2013 – NOMINEES

DEPTH OF FIELD IN SCREEN MUSIC
Multiple nominees David McCormack and Antony Partos, Henrique Dib and Michael Lira, are some of the eclectic group of musicians who represent the depth of talent in screen composition in Australia - from Lisa Gerrard, Burkhard Dallwitz, Francois Tetaz. Guy Gross, Cezary Skubiszewski and Stephen Rae to Richard Tognetti, Michael Yezerski and Christopher Elves.


Jed Kurzel, the 2011 winner in this category is again Nominated for Feature Film Score of the Year, for his ‘moody and atmospheric’ work on Dead Europe that was adapted from Christos Tsiolkas' award-winning novel. Joining him in this category are nominees Lisa Gerrard (2012 Feature Film Score of the Year winner), Marcello De Francisci and Michael Stearns who collaborated on Samsara. Composer and orchestrator Ricky Edwards is acknowledged for his work on The 25th Reich a sci-fi comedy movie and Caitlin Yeo is nominated for her work on the critically acclaimed film The Rocket.

QLD composer Ryan Walsh is nominated in the category of Best Music for a Documentary for his work on the ABC documentary on Australian photographer Polly Borland (Artscape: Polly Borland – Polymorphous). Amanda Brown and Burkhard Dallwitz have been nominated for their collaboration on Red Obsession, which was hand-picked by Robert De Niro as a highlight of the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival. Michael Lira is nominated for his work on The A-Z of Contemporary Art and Ash Gibson Greig receives a nomination for his work on Yagan, the story of an Australian Aboriginal warrior.

Guy Gross is recognised for his score for the ABC telemovie Dangerous Remedy in the category of Best Music for a Mini-Series or Telemovie. He is joined by Matteo Zingales for the ABC Mini-series Devil’s Dust which told the true story of the James Hardie asbestos saga. Cezary Skubiszewski is nominated for ABC’s Telemovie The Mystery of a Hansom Cab based on the international best-selling novel by Fergus Hume. And Francois Tetaz has a nomination for his work on Underground, the Robert Connolly directed bio-drama about Julian Assange as a young hacktivist.

The nominees in the category of Best Soundtrack Album are Rafael May for Black Water, Richard Tognetti and Michael Yezerski for their collaboration on Storm Surfers 3D, Piotr Nowotnik for The Journey and Josh Abrahams, Davide Carbone and Russell Thornton who are nominated for the soundtrack album for Woody, the animated short film about a wooden character who wants to play piano but only has paddles for hands.

Daniel Frankel, Gideon Frankel, Jessica Paige and Alex Wurman are nominated for Best Original Song Composed for the Screen for Begin Again from Call Me Crazy.
Thomas E Rouch is nominated for Fallen Dreams from Reverse Runner as are Cain Horton and Paul Kingston for On a Mini Adventure from Giggle & Hoot. David McCormack and Antony Partos land their 4th nomination for 2013 with Lonely Child from Redfern Now.

The prestigious International Achievement Award, which is determined by the APRA Board of Writer and Publisher Directors, will be announced in coming weeks. A live orchestra, conducted by celebrated composer Ashley Irwin will perform a selection of nominated compositions at the event.
