PINOCCHIO IN POSTER SPLURGE

An original 1940 poster for Disney’s classic Pinocchio will be the star attraction at the upcoming movie memorabilia auction in Melbourne, expected to fetch about $11,000.

Other posters amongst the 270 lots include a handful of sci-fi/horror cult items, such as Forbidden Planet (1956), The Blob (1958), Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956), The House of Wax (1953), as well as Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) and Halloween (1978). But there are some golden era classics, too, says auction co-ordinator Darren Catrwright, featuring Elizabeth Taylor in national Velvet, James Dean in Giant and East of Eden, Audrey Hepburn in several, including Breakfast at Tiffany'’ and Marilyn Monroe in Seven Year Itch.

There are also three posters from three different Titanic films, from James Cameron’s current mega-hit, to SOS Titanic (1979) and Raise the Titanic (1980). And marking the 20th anniversary of Grease, there is a set of original lobby cards, valued at around $150.

The memorabilia covers everyone from Hitchcock to Hepburn, Errol Flynn to Elvis Presley, Dirty Harry to Doris Day, Bogey and Bacall, Mad Max and Mighty Mouse, not mention James Bond and Jerry Lewis.
