FILM CRITICS CIRCLE OF AUSTRALIA AWARDS 2005 - WINNERS

LOOK, FIVE GONGS
Look Both Ways has collected five of the top awards from the film critics, including Best Film, while Hugo Weaving has been voted Best Support Actor for his role in Little Fish – despite being nominated in the Best Actor category in both the AFI and IF Awards. Andrew L. Urban reports.

Never mind which category you put him in, lead or support, Hugo Weaving’s performance in Little Fish deserves notice and if he wins either the IF or the AFI Award, he will have the unique distinction of winning two different awards for the  same performance. (The producers of Little Fish had confirmed that Weaving’s is a leading role.)

As for the public, they won’t even notice, and the industry doesn’t rely on the film critics’ awards as opinion leader on the subject.

Those members of the critics circle who were able to vote (having seen all the films in contention) clearly were taken with Look Both Ways, an original film with a big heart and something to say.
