CESAR AWARDS 2008 - WINNERS

CESAR OF THE GRAIN
Persépolis was the official French entry for the Best Foreign Language Academy Award, but it was The Secret of the Grain which won the French equivalent, the Cesar for Best French Film, just 24 hours before the Oscars presentations.

Abdellatif Kechiche’s highly acclaimed drama The Secret Of The Grain has been awarded Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Breakthrough Actress (to 21 year old Hafsia Herzi) at the 33rd Annual Cesar Awards ceremony in Paris last weekend. The film is screening in this year’s French Film Festival (capital cities through March) and is to be released by Palace Films on March 20 in Sydney & Melbourne, and April 10 in Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Canberra.

But the animated comedy/drama Persépolis won the coveted Best Adaptation category (adapted from a comic) and The Lives of Others won yet another accolade with the Best Foreign Film Cesar.

Mathieu Amalric, not surprisingly, won the Best Actor award for The Diving Bell & The Butterfly, which opened in Australia on February 14; and Marion Cotillard took home the Best Actress statuette for La Môme (La Vie En Rose), which was released here in July 2007. She went on to win the Oscar a day later.

Le Mozart des Pickpockets had a double whammy weekend, winning both the Oscar and the Cesar for Best Short.
