BEST NEW FILMS OF 2008 (JAN - APR)

At the end of the first third of 2008, editor Andrew L. Urban flicks through the new releases and picks his favourites. Of the 91 films released and reviewed on our pages, Iíve selected those that are satisfying cinema and of genuine lasting value Ė and found 15. No doubt others will have a different list; we all experience movies through the prism of our own unique experiences and tastes. (Donít be shy to comment on my list:

Of the 15 films listed below, four are foreign language and one is Australian, and the variety is extraordinary, as you might expect. I wonder how many films even the keenest cinema lover can manage in a busy life with competing attractions for the entertainment dollar Ė and spare leisure time. To have seen 15 films Ė ANY 15 Ė in a four month period would rank as heavy consumption. And to have seen the BEST 15 would require just as much effort Ė for greater return.
