SCREEN ACTORS GUILD AWARDS 2009 - NOMINATIONS

The year’s Best Actor and Best Actress award from their peers could end up in the same house, with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie both nominated, he for Benjamin Button, she for The Changeling, while the late Heath Ledger is in the running for a best supporting actor award for his Joker in The Dark Knight.

Brad Pitt is up against some formidable competition for the best actor award, from Richard Jenkins’ textured but minimalist portrayal of Walter in The Visitor, to Frank Langella’s Nixon and Mickey Rourke’s extraordinary performance in The Wrestler, not to mention Sean Penn as Harvey Milk.

Doubt has the biggest group of acting nominations for a single movie, with both male and female leads (Philip Seymour Hoffman & Meryl Streep) and two supporting actresses (Amy Adams & Viola Davis) nominated as well being nominated for the ensemble award.

Screen Actors Guild President Alan Rosenberg introduced Angela Bassett (“ER”) and Actor recipient Eric McCormack (“Will & Grace”), who announced the nominees for this year’s Actors. SAG Awards. The SAG Awards for performances in 2008 will be presented in Los Angeles on Sunday, January 25 2009.
