"David Puttnam asked me to write this and gave me $5000 to do so, and I was frightened by it. I delayed and delayed for about a year, and Puttnam got pissed off and went away, and then I wrote it"  -Bob Ellis, on the birth of his script, The Nostradamus Kid

I KNOW YOU KNOW: DVD

SYNOPSIS:
Jamie (Arron Fuller) is 11 years old and inseparable from the father he adores, Charlie (Robert Carlyle). It's September 1988 in Wales, the schools are back and after a summer away together, Charlie and Jamie settle into life on a housing estate and at a dull suburban school. But it's only temporary - Charlie is leading a double life. He's got big plans and one last secret mission to complete: big money and a life in America. When Charlie becomes increasingly paranoid and dangerous, Jamie suspects that the plot may all be a figment of his imagination. But there's more to it than that . . . like the new satellite tv operator Astrosat.

Review by Andrew L. Urban:
Dedicated to his father, Justin Kerrigan's autobiographical coming of age story is as unique as anyone's life. That is a big plus. There are other plusses, not least the two central performances of Arron Fuller as 11 year old Jamie and Robert Carlyle as his delusional dad. It's a love story as heartwarming and heartbreaking as any romance, but different. It's about a single dada and his son, their love a bond so strong and so pure it makes you believe in humanity again.

Young Fuller is a wonderful find, a newcomer whose work is worth watching in the future. He manages to create a totally credible youngster whose maturity is acquired through the pain of his experience.

Robert Carlyle is magnificent as the troubled father whose devotion to his son overrides everything - and whose reality is anchored around his son's welfare, even when that reality is shaky.

I wouldn't want to say too much more about the story, the revelations best left to viewers to discover. But the film is beautifully made, with sensitivity but not easy sentimentality and the supporting cast are all terrific. Guy Farley's score is worth a mention, too, as a key element in the overall package.
