"Let the make up do the acting, yep, that's exactly what I did. I thought to myself, there's no reason to act like a dog or animal, or it'd get a bit unreal."  -Temuera Morrison on his role as a dog-creature in The Island of Dr Moreau

CINEFESTOZ 2012 – PREVIEW

The 5th CinefestOZ (Aug. 22- 26) held in the Margaret River region of Western Australia brings together filmmakers (and winemakers) with a rich program of premieres and special events, including workshops, with more than 20 directors and producers, and high profile guests including Bryan Brown and Brendan Cowell.

Of the 19 feature films screening at CinefestOZ this year, two will be world premieres, two Australian premieres and seven WA premieres. Seven of the films are French and two are Chinese/Australian co-productions. This unique film profile differentiates CinefestOZ from other Australian festivals – indeed, just about all film festivals.

Pauline Chan’s 33 Postcards will share opening night with French box office hit, The Intouchables; Chan will take part in a Q&A after the screening. Another high profile French film in the program is Monsieur Lazhar, winner of the Audience Awards at the Sydney, Rotterdam and Lorcano Film Festivals.

Festival Patron David Wenham is expected to attend, as are Bryan Brown, Brendan Cowell, Matilda Brown, Sean Keenan, Tim Ferguson, Pauline Chan, Mario Andreacchio, Robyn Kershaw, Nick Batzias, Antony I. Ginnane, Carmelo Musca, Martyn Park, Colin and Cameron Cairnes, Veronica Fury and Alan Lindsay.

The Saturday Night Gala will present the new Australian comedy, Save Your Legs, while on Thursday and Friday nights it’s down to Clancy’s Pub in Dunsborough.

Friday’s Directors Lunch will bring together all the film directors, stars and VIPs attending the fest, at the spectacular Aravina Estate.

A schools session, claymation workshop (including Pierce Davison who worked on the Oscar winning Mary and Max), industry forum (with industry leaders Greg Coote, Joel Pearlman, Nick Batzias) and a script reading are among some of the other events scheduled.
