Cruise companies go to great lengths to appeal to a wide range of holiday-makers, and movie buffs are no exception. With in-cabin TVs playing up to 25 movies across all genres on some ships, you won’t have to miss a minute of viewing time while you’re on a cruise holiday! But did you know that you can also enhance your movie experience beyond this?
My Cruises have looked into ocean, river, mega, and boutique ship packages to find some of the best floating cinema options around. Read on to find out more!
For the kids
If you’re travelling with mini movie buffs, the Royal Caribbean helps to bring their favourite movies to life! The DreamWorks Experience is available on the Quantum, Oasis, Freedom, and Voyager Class ships and features characters from Shrek, Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda, and How to Train Your Dragon. Families with kids of all ages will enjoy the many activities of this experience. Take part in themed trivia and scavenger hunts, dine with the characters, and watch a range of great DreamWorks films come to life in the Royal Caribbean’s 3D theatre!
If DreamWorks isn’t your family’s cup of tea, there are other options on different ships. Carnival Cruise Line has a great range of floating cinema outlets, including Dive-In Movies (included at no extra cost) and the IMAX Theatre. See first-run Hollywood blockbusters, recent films, and IMAX documentaries on the bigger-than-big screen! You’ll find something for everyone here and, if you’re after a bit of kid-free viewing time, Carnival’s Seuss at Sea program will occupy your little mates and make them feel like they’re on a movie set as their favourite storybook cartoons come to life!
Refined and classic
Kids and families are not the only groups who enjoy the cinema, and cruise companies have recognised this. The luxurious river cruise specialists, Emerald Waterways offer a refined viewing experience on their boutique ships. A spectacular level of innovation has gone into crafting the cinema on board Emerald’s Star Ships. Set at the back of the Horizon Deck (second from the top), the cinema is as such at night and then transforms into a pool by day. The transformation alone is something to behold, but passengers are also able to view a great range of classic films and new releases as they wind down with a drink and settle in to a night of floating along the canals and riverbanks of Europe.
View it all
No matter how you like to view your movies, or where you like to travel, there’s a cruise ship out there that helps you combine both! Floating cinemas are a thing in both the ocean and the river and, if you haven’t experienced them yet, you should definitely organise to check them out!
