AFI NOMINEES 1999: FEATURE FILM

TWO HANDS, ELEVEN NODS
Scoring a nomination in every category for which it is eligible (11), Gregor Jordan's critical and commercial hit, Two Hands, is the early favourite for the 1999 Best Film AFI Award. But in a twist of voting fate, AFI members also voted Bill Bennett into a Best Director nomination for In A Savage Land, although the film is not in the running for Best Film. Bennett's gain is John Polson's loss - Polson's film, Siam Sunset, is a Best Film nominee, but Polson is not on the Best Director list. Praise and Soft Fruit are the other two Best Film nominations.
